Andy's Story
Andy Conlin is a rising artist based in Western Australia, living and painting on Noongar Boodjar. Born in the UK in 1972, he has spent the past 35 years across various Australian cities, where landscape and light continue to shape his artistic voice.
The pandemic offered a welcome pause — and a return to the brushes he first picked up in high school. Since then, Andy has committed himself to a consistent and evolving art practice, working across watercolour, oils, acrylic, and charcoal. What began with plein air watercolours has expanded into bold explorations in oil portraiture, abstraction, and mixed media.
Andy approaches each piece with energy, always aiming to infuse his work with life and presence. His interests are wide-ranging — from sculptural forms to expressive mark-making — but he’s particularly drawn to the interplay of character and landscape.
He recently exhibited in his second Spirit of the Landscape show, part of the annual Plein Air Down Under festival in Mandurah. His work has received several awards, including accolades at PADU and WASA’s Wattle Day event, the Jackson’s Art Prize for oil portraiture, and most recently, the Beverley Prize.
Andy’s passion for experimentation and his commitment to growth are visible in every painting — an invitation to pause, connect, and look again.
